Reflection #3

As the readings become easier to understand, and the class discussions become more interesting, I am finally feeling as though I’m finding my way in this class. I thoroughly enjoy the discussions we have in class, especially when we tie in concepts and theories we have learned to current events in the Middle East. By doing so, it makes it easier for me to analyze and understand the dynamics of the MENA region. I also really enjoyed the documentary of Edward Said’s work over the years. Although I do think he left out some crucial information, specifically regarding the Israel-Palestinian conflict, his study into why there are stereotypes of the Middle East and the people who inhabit it is very interesting to me. I enjoy discovering how the Western world perceives the Muslim world, and vise versa, and how these perception influence their relationship.
